Bunny Hat


Again, this is not my own pattern but I made it and it turned out very nicely :)

Hello Everyone!

Here it is! Just in time for Easter :) 

I have rewritten Darla's Bunny Hat into the following sizes:

Preemie (11” circumference/4.5” height)
0-3 month (13.5” circumference/5.25” height)
3-12 month (15.5” circumference/5.5” height)
1-5 year (18.5” circumference/7.5” height)
5-10 year (19.5” circumference/8.25” height)
adult (size medium/woman's) (21.25” circumference/8.75” height)

The face details and the ears have also been revised to fit the new hat sizes.  

The pattern is quite long because I wrote it in sections based on size for ease of use.  

Just a note:
When the Bernat Softee Chunky "new version" came out the original labels indicated it was a size 5 bulky (it has since been changed - thankfully! to 6).  

I did a wpi comparison on the retired Bernat Softee Chunky and the new version Bernat Softee Chunky to allow anyone to replicate the pattern with the yarn of their choice.  The retired version was 9 wpi and the new version of the Bernat Softee Chunky is 6 wpi.

Hooks:  Size 8.00 mm (U.S. L/11), 6.50 mm (U.S. K/101/2), 5.50 mm (U.S. I/9) and 5.00 mm (U.S. H/8) (or size needed to obtain correct tension)

Bernat Softee Chunky (11 sts)  [bulky 6] - 1 ball (100 g/3.5 oz, 99 m/108 y) - soft taupe was used for the main hat and the ears. [MC]
Bernat Softee Chunky [bulky 5] - < 1 ball of each colour (100 g/3.5 oz, 164 m/180 y)
(this is the ‘old version’ softee chunky from bernat)

Colours : white, black, linen and dark taupe for the eyes, face patches and whiskers

Lion Brand Yarn (Martha Stewart Crafts) alpaca blend - [bulky 5]  < 1 ball,(100g/3.5 oz, 105 m/115 y) - used for the nose and inner ear colour -  Foxglove

Crochet Baby Converse!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this awesome {FREE} crocheted baby Converse pattern by Suzanne Resaul over at Ravelry!
(You can tell which was my first shoe ever since my black stripes weren't as even then...I learned as I went along.  :)



I've had a LOT of fun lately crocheting baby shoes for my many pregnant friends.  :)

I love all the bright colors you can make.


I love that it can be for boys
paired up with the football baby cocoon for a newborn boy gift!

I love that the pattern is FREE and adorable and so, so tiny!!!  Small things are always cuter.  :)  I seriously smile, and even giggle a little to myself with glee, when I look at these.  Especially when they weren't finished yet:
Don't they just make YOU smile?  :)

I will say, I struggled to follow the directions (maybe it was just me), so no two shoes are exactly alike.  (That just adds to the handmade charm, right? :)  Also, the beginning is a little challenging as you start since it's all so tight, but by the end it's MUCH easier.  AND, I didn't have the hooks she said to have, so I used .25 mm smaller for each...which works out since they are BABY shoes!  (Maybe sometime I'll try to adapt the pattern to MY SIZE feet...I could use some cool house slippers. :)  The first shoe took me 6-7 hours from start to finish as I tried to figure out what she meant in each step, but by the end, after I figured it out, it only took me 2 1/2-3 hours for each shoe.  So if you're a crocheter, give them a shot!

Building to a Chain: The Single Crochet

This is the most basic form of crochet and you can create many things with this. Once you get the hang of it, you can make almost anything you want.

Step one: after making a chain, put the yarn
on top of your pinky finger, under your middle
and ring finger, and on top of your pointer finger.















 Step 2: When starting a first row, skip one stitch
before placing the next stich.
*tip: it is easiest to find the next stitch to go in
by stretching the yarn and putting the hook into
the stitch after the yarn that is diagonal.
Pull the yarn through only the first loop
on the hook.
Wrap the yarn around and then pull the yarn through
both loops on the hook.



On your second row, be sure to put the
hook through both loops on top and
do the rest the same.










 And this is what it looks like after a
few rows!

Crochet scarf with flowers

I really cant write patterns..and my crochet is not that great but here is a pattern for a scarf i made. I crocheted a scarf in a simple stitch, i believe it was a treble all the way, you can make this as long as you like. I made 5 flowers but again its up to you.

Crochet flowers (got this off my aunt, but as Ii said, i crochet my own way but i think this is as close as it gets!)

Abbreviations:
ch = chain; dc = double crochet; lp = loop; rep = repeat; sc = single crochet; ss = slip stitch;tr = treble crochet.
Round 1:Ch5,, join into a circle, work 15sc into circle. Ss into first ch.
Round 2: Ch4, * skip 1sc, 1dc into next sc, ch1, rep from * 6 times more. Join with a ss into the 3rd of the first 4ch. 
Round 3: Work 1dc, 1tr, 1dc, 1sc, * into next ch loop, work 1sc, 1dc, 1tr, 1dc, 1sc, rep from * into each ch loop, making 8 petals. Join with a ss into first ch.
Round 4 Working behind the petals made in the 3rd round, make ss between 2 petals, ch 4, * 1sc between next 2 petals, ch3, rep from * to end. The ch loops made lie behind the petals of the previous row. Join with a ss into first ch.
Round 5 Make the next row of petals by working 1sc, 1dc, 2tr, 1dc, 1sc into each ch loop. Join with a ss into first sc.

sailor hat pattern

So for this simple sailor hat, I used some 100% cotton thinner yarn, but if you want it softer go ahead, but you might have to make it a little smaller. Softer yarn= thicker and more stretchy. I like the look of this better that is why I chose it. So you will start off with blue yarn, then red, then red, and lastly for the anchor, black.

Main hat:
blue:
                -use magic loop to ch 8, sl st to join.
                -ch 1; 2 hdc in each ch around; (16 hdc) sl st to join
                -ch 1; (2  hdc in next hdc, 1 hdc in next hdc) around (24 hdc) sl st to join
               -ch 1; (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 2 st) around (32 st) sl st to join
               -ch 1 (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 3 st) around (40 st) sl st to join
               -ch 1 (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 4 st) around (48 st) sl st to join
               -ch 1 (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 5 st) around (56 st) sl st to join
               -ch 1 (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 6 st) around (64 st) sl st to join
               -ch 1 (2 hdc in next st, 1 hdc in next 7 st) around (72 st)sl st to join
               -ch 1 (2hdc i next st, 1 hdc in next 8 st) around (80 st) sl st to join
              -ch 1; (1hdc in each st around) repeat until about 8 rows or desired length
               - end off; change colors to red
red:
             -sl st to join; ch 1, (hdc 2tog) around (40 st)
             -ch1; (hdc 2tog, hdc 1) around (32 st); end off
white:
            -sl st to join; ch 1 (hdc 2tog, hdc in next 2 sts) around (24 st)
            -ch1; hdc in every st around; repeat 2 times; end off
black:
            -make 3 separate chains; one of 4, one of 6, and one of 8
            -with a thick needle, sew it onto the hat in the shape of an anchor

learning how to crochet

For all you beginners out there, I hope this helps. Here are some step by step instructions to start to crochet .

 The next three photos are showing the beginning of your 'chain' or first row that you will add on to.  You do this by wrapping the yarn around your pointer finger and thumb.






After the yarn is wrapped around, grab the longer          end of the yarn.









Continue pulling through the loop until you have made a slip knot.

now put the top of your crochet hook in the slip knot to begin your chain











now pull the longer string through the loop that is on your hook.








Continue doing this until you have a chain of desired length
 Now you have completed your first chain! whew! now it is time to build onto that so you have something useful (besides a really long necklace)

Starting to Crochet

In starting to crochet, there are a few basic things you need to know to succeed.  First of all, it is nice to know how to crochet so I will post a good link explaining it well. With knowing this, it is also nice to know how to read a pattern. The first thing to know about reading a pattern is abbreviations, so here is a handy translation:
         ch-chain
         sl st or ss- slip stitch
         sc- single crochet
         dc- double crochet
        hdc- half double crochet
Now these are the basic stitches, and it gets more complex from there, but this will start you off.
